Business Description

Our community is the hub of a large rural area which features energy and agrriculture as the main economic activities. The Town offers a wide range of services including health care, education, retail shopping, banking, insurance, recreation facilities and many government services.

The Town of Provost was founded in 1910 and celebrated its centennial in the summer of 2010. 

The population of the Town is 2041 according to the 2011 Census.

The Town of Provost is seeking to fill the position of

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Duties of this position include:

¨      Provide leadership and assistance to the Town of Provost in the administration, development and advancement of the Town of Provost current Economic Development programs;

¨      Development of business strategies such as retention and expansion  programs, identification of economic opportunities and establishing of strategic alliances with other levels of government and the private sector;

¨      Involvement with the Provost Tourist Information Centre and the Electronic Messaging Centre;

¨      Maintain and update Town of Provost and Town of Provost Economic Development website(s) as required;

¨      Represent the Town of Provost on various regional boards relating to economic development or tourism;

¨      Deal with and compile/provide information to inquiries concerning the community, economic development or tourism in the Town of Provost;

¨      Create contacts and liaise with potential investors to the Town of Provost;

¨      Development of promotional materials for the Town of Provost;

¨      Provide assistance to community groups for development of their individual programs.

 

An appreciation of the rural Alberta lifestyle along with an understanding of economic development and experience in the economic development and/or tourism fields would be beneficial.

Computer knowledge and an ability to deal with the public and media is required.

This position has a 35 hour work week and a salary commensurate with qualifications including a benefit package with LAPP pension.

Start date for this full time position is negotiable.
